THE MUNICIPALITY OF SANIKILUAQ
Situated in the heart of Hudson Bay within the Belcher Islands, Sanikiluaq stands as a vibrant Inuit community, home to 1000 residents. As the southernmost community in Nunavut, it is positioned approximately 150 kilometers (93 miles) off the western coast of Nunavik, Quebec.
HISTORY OF SANIKILUAQ
The native forebears of the Inuit community have resided in this region for countless centuries, having migrated from the northern Quebec mainland. Abundant archaeological sites scattered across the archipelago provide clear evidence of the ancient presence of both the Dorset and Thule cultures on these islands.
